    Santiago- Bellucci, Robredo through to round of 16 Defending champion Thomaz Bellucci eased into the second round at the Movistar Open, after beating Filippo Volandri in straight sets. The Brazilian is joined by sixth seed Tommy Robredo, who rallied to down Frederico Gil in three.

    World No. 31 Thomaz Bellucci made a strong start to his title defense, having upended veteran Filippo Volandri in straight sets. The 23-year-old converted five of 5 break points en route to a 6-2, 6-2 victory in just 62 minutes. With the opening-round win, Bellucci improved his 2011 season record to 4-2.

    The defending champion is next to face either Rui Machado or wildcard Felipe Rios.

    (6) Tommy Robredo def. Frederico Gil 2-6, 6-3, 6-4

    Sixth seed Tommy Robredo overcame a sluggish start to defeat Frederico Gil in three sets. The Spaniard trailed 2-6, 0-40, but fought back to earn a key break at 4-4 in the decider. Robredo secured four of 8 break points through one hour and 52 minutes of play.

    He is scheduled to meet Ricardo Mello in the round of 16. The Brazilian held on to oust Ruben Ramirez-Hidalgo in the first round, 6-4, 6-7(5), 7-6(6).
