Cilic downs Isner in marathon five-setter Marin Cilic is through to the round of 16, after rallying to defeat John Isner in five sets. The 22-year-old held on to take the deciding set at 9-7. David Ferrer also advanced following his routine win over Richard Berankis.

    (15) Marin Cilic def. (20) John Isner 4-6, 6-2, 6-7(5), 7-6(2), 9-7

Fifteenth seed Marin Cilic earned passage into the fourth round, having rallied from two-sets-to-one down against 20th seed John Isner. The 2010 Australian Open semifinalist saved 10 of 11 break points through four hours and 33 minutes. After splitting the first two sets, Cilic held match point in the 15th game of the decider. Patient play gave a second match point to the Croatian, who closed as the American mishit a forehand.

"I expected him to serve big, but not that big," Cilic said. "At some moments I felt that it was really difficult to get a rhythm on his serve. At the end of the match I just tried to stay in, started to serve much better, and felt easier with my game. I got a little lucky in this last game to win the match.

"It's a big win of course. Mentally it was not easy to stay in the match. This helps a lot in my all-around game especially that I played well also the first two matches. So I'm really happy."

Cilic completed the day with 53 winners and 22 aces. He faces world No. 1 Rafael Nadal for a place in the quarterfinal.

    (7) David Ferrer def. Richard Berankis 6-2, 6-2, 6-1

Seventh seed David Ferrer advanced to the last 16 by virtue of his comfortable win over Richard Berankis. The 28-year-old Spaniard broke serve eight times during the match while losing serve only once. Ferrer pocketed service breaks at 1-1 in the opening set, then led 2-0 in both the second and third. The seventh seed ended the 91-minute match with 23 winners to 15 unforced errors.

Ferrer will take on qualifier Milos Raonic in the round of 16. The Canadian took out Mikhail Youzhny in the third round, 6-4, 7-5, 4-6, 6-4.
