The seeds in the second quarter of the draw remain intact as Andy Murray leads the charge into the third round.
Andy Murray def. Illya Marchenko
Andy Murray has been quietly going about the business of dismantling his opponents so far this week. The Scot played with controlled aggression against an inconsistent Illya Marchenko in their second round match. Marchenko’s game veered wildly between brilliant winners and out-right forehand shanks.
The Scot appears to be peaking at the right moment this tournament. True to his billing as one of the best returners on tour, he broke Marchenko 6 times in their 3-set match and kept the Ukrainian man to just 5 aces; Murray had 16. Murray will next take on No. 32 seed Guillermo Garcia-Lopez.
Robin Soderling def. Gilles Muller
Luxembourg’s Gilles Muller tried to make a match of it in the second set. After losing just one service break early in the first set, Muller kept pace with world No. 4 Robin Soderling. The two men battled through the middle frame of the match without a service break, but the Swede utterly dominated the tiebreaker to take a two sets to none lead.
Muller completely lost his way after losing the second set tiebreaker. In 31 minutes, Soderling closed out the match, permitting Muller just 12 more total points.
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga def. Andreas Seppi
France’s Jo-Wilfried Tsonga had a tougher-than-expected time defeating Italy’s Andreas Seppi. Tsonga had to forge a massive comeback in his first round match against Philipp Petzschner; the Frenchman is still making his way back from injury.
Seppi had chances to win both the second and third sets. The two men traded breaks of serve on both occasions, but in each the Italian fell short in the tiebreaker.
Tsonga will take on the up-and-coming Alexandr Dolgopolov in the third round.

Sod just isn't the same calibre as muzz. They say the rankings don't don't lie and I agree: when one guy needs to play 24 tournies to get 25 more ranking points than a guy who's only played 19, then the numbers speak pretty clearly. But a clearer measure of the gulf is found in their combined H2Hs against the other 4 of the top 5: Soderling 6-28, Murray 18-21. Never mind tournaments won over how many years ... Their match at the O2 was a pretty accurate picture of how they compare right now.
Yep, gonna be roast not toast :-)

There are of course the minor matters of Garcia-Lopez, Meltzer (ouch!), Hernych and Tsonga (double ouch!) first. Hope the lasts posts haven't jinxed anyone :(

On this court, I'd go with Muzz as well. I agree that I think he's a better player than Soderling and I think Muzz is feeling the court pretty well so far.
