Twentieth seed John Isner is through to the round of 32 at the Australian Open, after recording his first win over Radek Stepanek. The American is joined by wildcard Bernard Tomic, who took out 31st seed Feliciano Lopez.

World No. 20 John Isner made the third round, following his straight-set victory against Radek Stepanek. The 25-year-old rallied from a set deficit to close the match in two hours and 9 minutes. After trailing by a set, Isner held set point at 5-4 in the second. The third set went the American’s way in short order, as he broke at 3-2 and 5-2. Isner put the match out of reach with a 3-0 lead in the third set. He completed the afternoon with 20 aces and one service game surrendered.
Isner will take on 2010 semifinalist Marin Cilic in the third round. The 15th seed defeated Santiago Giraldo in round two, 6-3, 7-6(1), 6-1.

Teenage wildcard Bernard Tomic earned passage into the third round after scoring an upset over 31st seed Feliciano Lopez. The Australian won the first set, then fell behind 0-3 in the second. Tomic fought back to capture the set in a tie-break. A final service break came for the wildcard at 4-3 in the third set. Lopez struggled with an unreliable backhand, having committed 40 unforced errors through 129 minutes of play.
Tomic is scheduled to face World No. 1 Rafael Nadal in the next round. The top seed took out qualifier Ryan Sweeting in the second round, 6-2, 6-1, 6-1.
