Former world No. 4 Juan Martin Del Potro won his first match in nearly a year after ousting sixth seed Feliciano Lopez at the Medibank International. The Argentine is joined by Igor Andreev, who downed Jeremy Chardy in straight sets.

Wildcard Juan Martin Del Potro made a successful return to the ATP World Tour with a three-set victory over sixth seed Feliciano Lopez. The 22-year-old crushed 21 aces en route to earning his first match win since the 2010 Australian Open.
After saving a match point at 6-7 in the second set tiebreak, Del Potro fought off six break points to eventually reach six games all in the decider. The Argentine won six consecutive points from 1-3 in the tiebreak, sealing the victory in three hours and 20 minutes.
Del Potro faces Florian Mayer in the round of 16. The German took out wildcard James Ward in the first round, 7-5, 6-0.

Qualifier Igor Andreev extended his series lead to 3-2 over Jeremy Chardy on Monday afternoon. The Russian pocketed four breaks of serve through one hour and 12 minutes of play. Andreev broke at 2-0 and 5-2 in the 28-minute opening set.
After losing a service-break edge in the second set, the 27-year-old broke to a 5-4 advantage. Chardy struggled on serve, tallying six double-faults during the match.
Andreev is slated to meet third seed Ernests Gulbis for a place in the quarterfinals.
