Rafael Nadal is demonstrating his huge commitment to victory no matter what as the world No. 1 plays through a debilitating fever at the Qatar Open in Doha.
While Nadal is struggling with his health, rival Roger Federer needed to grapple with his emotions as he was required to defeat childhood friend Marco Chiudinelli to advance.
Nadal was feeling poorly as he beat Ernests Gulbis and was even advised by the trainer to consider quitting his match. But the Spaniard prevailed in straight sets to reach the semi-finals along with Federer.
Nadal has said he's been taking antibiotics and said of his win: "I just did the best I could today. I will be more ready for my next match."
Federer and the No.117 Chiudinelli grew up as neighbors in Basel and have remained good friends for years despite the divergence in their tennis career. Federer has won both of their ATP meetings, with the first played in Basel in late 2009.
