Top seed Robin Soderling continued his run in Brisbane, having downed Australian Matthew Ebden in straight sets Thursday evening. The 26-year-old took the opening set in 34 minutes, then followed with a double-break 4-1 edge in the second. Soderling ended the match with 9 aces and 9 service games without facing a break point.

"I've been serving really, really well all week - I haven't been broken yet," Soderling explained. "Today I managed to serve well when it mattered. There were a couple of love-30 opportunities when I served really well, so I'm very happy about that."

He faces 2009 champion Radek Stepanek for a place in the championship match.

World No. 62 Radek Stepanek reached the last four after ousting 7th seed Florian Mayer, 6-3, 6-3. The 32-year-old Czech veteran led 5-1 in the first set and 2-0 in the second. The German struggled with his second serve, unable to win more than 11 of 28 points. Stepanek completed the afternoon with four of 13 break chances converted in 83 minutes.

"In the back of my mind there’s always confidence from those years that everything here suits me on the court, off the court," the former champion said post-match. "Now I’m very pleased to play here in front of such a crowd; it’s always an honor.

"To play Robin is always tough. We've had some great battles over the years and I don't expect anything else and I'm looking forward to it."
