Fifth seed Marcos Baghdatis marched into the final eight at the Brisbane International with a straight-set victory over Lukasz Kubot. He is joined by former champion Radek Stepanek, who ousted fourth seed Mardy Fish.

World No. 20 Marcos Baghdatis made the quarterfinal after downing round of 16 opponent Lukasz Kubot in just 65 minutes. The 25-year-old Cypriot tallied five aces and five breaks of serve to seal a 6-2, 6-2 victory on Wednesday. After building a 4-0 edge in the opening set, Baghdatis held Kubot to a mere six return points in set two.
“I played very good today, I was very aggressive from the beginning of the match,” the winner explained. “I was fresher after overcoming my jetlag. Today, I was much faster on the court.
“It is good to play a Top 10 player like Andy (Roddick), it will be a great match and it will be nice to see how I perform.”
Baghdatis will face defending champion Roddick for a spot in the semifinals. The American came through his round of 16 clash with Alexandr Dolgopolov in straight sets, 6-4, 6-1.
Radek Stepanek def. (4) Mardy Fish 6-3, 6-1
Former champion Radek Stepanek improved his series lead to 4-0 against fourth seed Mardy Fish Wednesday night. The 2009 Brisbane International winner converted four of 10 break points to oust the American in 78 minutes of play. Fish struggled with his second serve, unable to win more than 30% of the points. He had problems on the return as well, taking just 11 points through two sets.
Stepanek is scheduled to meet seventh seed Florian Mayer in the quarterfinal. The German held on to beat qualifier Ricardas Berankis in the round of 16, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.
