Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal will both be in action on Tuesday at the Qatar ExxonMobil Open.
Roger Federer vs. Thomas Schoorel
World No. 2 Roger Federer has the benefit of breaking in his 2011 season against Thomas Schoorel, a qualifier from the Netherlands. Schoorel is rankedth 168 in the world; his last ATP tournament was Stockholm, where he also qualified but lost in the opening round to Germany’s Benjamin Becker.
Federer closed out 2010 with a win at the World Tour Finals over Rafael Nadal. The Swiss prepares in Doha to defend his Australian Open crown from a year ago. While Schoorel is making a mark on the challenger circuit, he cannot be expected to hang with Federer for two sets. Federer in straights.
Rafael Nadal vs. Karol Beck
Nadal will make his 2011 debut against the Slovakian 28 year-old Karol Beck. Nadal comes into the 2011 season off a historic year in which he won the French Open, Wimbledon and the US Open, completing the career Golden Slam (he has won each of the majors plus the Olympic gold medal in singles).
Beck’s ranking has slid to No. 103 in the world. He won just one match on the ATP tour in 2010, with the rest of his rankings points coming from the Challenger circuit.
Nadal looked fit as he competed in an exhibition in Abu Dhabi prior to the Doha event; he defeated Federer in straight sets in the final. Expect the Spaniard to breeze through this match.

Good to see that Schoorel qualified for the main event. It should be a good experience to play against Federer. Federer should win this, but Schoorel is progressing steadily. Last month he suprised Haase and de Bakker at the Dutch nationals and went on to win the title.
Let's hope that he can make one set competitive!

I personally hope fed will go through in a really closely contested match. If thomas is not too nervous and serves big, he'll be difficult to break, like the Karlovic and Isners among tennis players.

word jokes of "schoorel will be schooled in two" are buzzing around, not unexpectedly. Although I firmly believe that Schoorel has virtually no chance against Fed, one should be suspicious for journalism solely based on difference in rankings. Schoorel is a really tall lefty, who was just playing futures in the same period of last year. I've actually seen him play twice, and he has a huge serve and forehand. The latter being as powerful as Nadal's. Fed usually fares well against big hitters, illustrated by his trashing of Söderling and Delpo. But he also lost to both, when those big hitters were hitting all marks. Surely, Schoorel has no experience on the atp tour, so fed will likely wrap him up. Obviously, I've only seen the guy play because I'm Dutch. As I really like fed, I don't know who to cheer for, really. Am anxious to see how he'll do :-)
