(2) Andy Roddick def. (WC) Marinko Matosevic 6-3, 6-2
Second seed Andy Roddick earned his first victory of the 2011 season with a 6-3, 6-2 success against Australian wildcard Marinko Matosevic. The 28-year-old American struck 5 aces and held 8 of 9 service games through 72 minutes of play. After taking the opening set, the World No. 8 quickly built a 5-0 edge in set two. With the first-round win, Roddick notched his sixth consecutive victory at the Brisbane International.
“I feel healthy and fit probably for the first time since May last year, so that’s a good thing,” Roddick explained. “There’s nothing I’m trying to cover up, I don’t feel short on practice, I don’t question the last month that I’ve put in and that’s a first for a little while.”
He is scheduled to face Alexandr Dolgopolov for a place in the quarterfinal. The Ukranian downed Russian Igor Andreev in the first round, 6-4, 6-2.

Mayer will meet either veteran Arnaud Clement or qualifier Ricardas Berankis in the next round.
