Nicolas Kiefer has ended his tennis career, with the 33-year-old quitting the game to help raise his infant daughter.
The German won the last two of his six career titles in 2000 and after last playing at Wimbledon six months ago, felt that the time to move on had arrived.
Kiefer reached a career-high fourth in a world a decade ago and produced a best-ever Australian Open semi-final in 2006. The German said he would continue to play football as an amateur with his Hanover 96 and will continue studies in sports management.
"It's time to start a new chapter in life after 15 years," Kiefer said, citing the Aug 11 birth of his daughter. "I had a super career, met many great people, saw many countries and learnt a lot. It's enough. Now I'm a father and have a daughter." Kiefer exits with an ATP ranking of 722 after his latest injury round.
