Australian tennis hopeful Bernard Tomic, whose progress in the games has stalled over the past years, has taken on the coach who helped Goran Ivanisevic to the Wimbledon title nine years ago over Australian Patrick Rafter.
Handlers of the 18-year-old Tomic, whose ranking stands outside the Top 200 despite a determined push by the Australian federation to move him into line as a replacement for 29-year-old Lleyton Hewitt, hope that Mario Tudor, 32, can make a difference in the youngster's game.
Their first appointment is this week's playoff series at Melbourne Park which awards a wildcard into the Australian Open main draw to winners on the men's and women's sides.
Todur formerly worked with not only Ivanisevic, but also helped found a tennis academy in Croatia. Tomic has been up until now coached by his Croatian-born father John. The senior Tomic has had several disciplinary run-ins with Tennis Australian for coaching from the stands and other violations.
Tomic, a former Australian and US Open junior winner, has played only 12 matches since qualifying at Wimbledon.
