  • Emotional Troicki a tearful Serbian hero

    12/6/10 1:14 AM | Johan Lindahl
Emotional Troicki a tearful Serbian hero Viktor Troicki was stunned after defeating Michael Llodra to clinch an historic Davis Cup title for Serbia with a victory in the fifth and deciding weekend rubber against France.

"This is just unbelievable, I didn't know what to do after the last point," confessed the previously anonymous world No. 33. "This is the best moment of my life. We believed we could get this trophy and we did."

The tearful hero was joined in celebration by teammates led by Novak Djokovic at the conclusion of the 3-2 weekend win as Serbia became only the second nation after Croatia in 2005 to clinch the Cup from a first final.

Troicki, who lost in Saturday doubles with teammate Nenad Zimonjic, was a late and surprising substitution for Serbia in the rubber which mattered most after Djokovic had leveled the tie 2-all with a crushing of Gael Monfils in straight sets.

But amid the Serbian joy there was French anger, with losing captain Guy Forget lashing out at local Belgrade fans. "Now that it's over, the only thing I can say is always when you have a big event like this, you always have 20 or 30 idiots that are whistling every time you toss the ball.

"That's very frustrating. It's very unfair. These people don't need to be on a sport field anywhere. I think that kind of spoiled the pleasure that you can have on the court because you're always fighting the chair umpire to apply the rules."

Congrats to Serbia and all the team for wonderful, exciting matches and a great win that brought smiles to everyone who watched it! Condolences to the French but congrats also for fighting as hard as you did!

What did Forget expect from a hometown crowd? It was Serbia's first final and they won and they are proud of their players and their homeland. French crowds have been known to boo injuries and players. That must be more acceptable to Forget.

Fed fans are hiding out of jealousy? Is Fed ever gonna win a DC? I doubt it for Mr. Narcissus.

@ MurrayFan: lol
I wonder what does Federer has to do with this thread, it's about the serbs winning DC. There is nothing to be jealous about here, if players think like so then every top player would be jealous of Federer and Nadal. Let's keep this thread ON topic.
Congratulations to all Serbians, Nole and his fans especially zare and mridula. It was a great final really. Enjoy ur victory.

Is Forget for real? I think the French crowd are the most roccus in my opinion!!!!! The last time Federer played Monfils in the ATP finals in France it was so loud i thought it was a bloody rock concert!!! It was so irritating, and I can NEVER forget the way they cheered when Soderling beat Rafa at Roland Garros..............give me a break!!!!!!!!!!!

Congratualtions to Serbia..........adje Nole!!!!!

Watch out for the Serbs being booed at Roland Garros from now on......join the club!

Sorry folks...........as you may well know.....................the word is spelt 'raucous'!!!

Forget must never have seen a match at RG or Bercy. LOL!!
Yes, get ready for any male Serb to be booed at those venues.

Many congratulations to the Serbians on their first Davis Cup win
I was thrilled to watch their joy and what a great match to finish of the year
Well done all of you
I say to the French teams Captain - look at your own fans in their back yard before you hand out harsh remarks to the serbs at home
The french fans are some of the worst ever in their home country for unruly sport behavoiur etc
