  • Soderling seeking coach after split with Magnus Norman

    12/3/10 2:04 PM | Johan Lindahl
Soderling seeking coach after split with Magnus Norman World No. 5 Robin Soderling has split from coach Magnus Norman after more than two years together, with the swede now seeking a coach alongside Andy Murray.

Soderling, French Open finalist in 2009 and 2010, joins number four Andy Murray now in the market for a mentor. Murray ended his run with Miles MacLagan last July and is in no hurry to take on a new coach.

Soderling told his website that Norman, losing finalist at Roland Garros in 2000 who took over the Swede when he was ranked 35th, wanted to "put more focus on his personal life and new projects". Those include a tennis academy in Sweden which would allow the former coach to stop the constant travelling required when looking after a top player.

"I look back on a fun and fantastic 26-month-long period of time together with Robin," said former number two Norman. "I want to thank Robin for the faith he has had in me to take care of his career, a responsibility I have tried to manage in the best way possible."

Soderling, currently on beach holidays at an Indian ocean beach after playing last week at the World Tour Finals in London, said he needs a coach "who can put in the time necessary, and focus 100 percent on my tennis. I've had the two best years of my career so far with Magnus as a coach," said Soderling. "I feel this is the right decision for us both, and we part as good friends."

numero, I note and share your concern. Not only did Ricky call the coaching split wrong, this is one of a couple of posts that informed us that he had trouble deciding the state of play after some of the round robin matches when the most of us knew what it took, and at least one of us posted to explain things to him.

Pint of milk to Dimon Towers, I think...

how so?

if i cared that people were going to know that I didn't care to bother calculating the tiebreakers, then I wouldn't have asked publicly about the tiebreakers!

so I'll say it again: I don't care about World Tour Finals tiebreakers!

söderling can continue to climb into top 4 next year, but then he needs another good coach. perhaps carlos moyà !

Carlos Moya?????? I can just see Moya telling Sod how to beat Rafa - I don't think so!!

How about Mats Wilander, he should put his money where his mouth is because he is never short of advice on how to beat Rafa when he is commentating.
