The 2010 Davis Cup all comes down to Serbia and France. The action begins on Friday as the Serbs are set to host the proceedings on the indoor hard court of the Belgrade Arena.
France will be bidding for its 10th Davis Cup title while Serbia is looking for its first as the two nations prepare to collide in this weekend's final at the Belgrade Arena.
While history may favor the French, the Serbs have a lot going for them in terms of both home-court advantage and talent. They have never lost in this venue and their current squad indicates that the streak might not end anytime soon. World No. 3 Novak Djokovic leads the way and he is joined by Janko Tipsarevic, Viktor Troicki, and doubles specialist Nenad Zimonjic.
France will be without Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, but the visitors are still putting out a formidable foursome. Gael Monfils is currently the top-ranked Frenchman (one spot ahead of Tsonga at No. 12 in the world) and he leads the way along with Michael Llodra, Gilles Simon, and Arnaud Clement. Both Monfils and Llodra have been in impressive form. Llodra upset Djokovic to reach the Paris Masters semifinals and Monfils finished runner-up in Paris to Robin Soderling.
For Serbia, Djokovic could be joined in the singles lineup by either Tipsarevic or Troicki. Zimonjic--who just won the World Tour Finals with Daniel Nestor--could team up with any of the other three in doubles, possibly even Djokovic if the Serbs falter in Friday's singles and are desperate for a point. Monfils and Llodra are expected to get the nod for France, and Llodra will be ready to work double duty with Clement on Saturday.
Head-to-head: France and Serbia have never faced each other in Davis Cup. France squared off against Yugoslavia eight times--most recently in 1991--and they split those meetings 4-4.
How they got here: France defeated Germany 4-1, Spain 5-0, and Argentina 5-0. Serbia beat the United States 3-2, Croatia 4-1, and the Czech Republic 3-2. The French, which hosted all their of their previous ties, have not lost a single live rubber. The Serbs clinched home ties against the USA and the Czechs in the fourth and fifth rubbers, respectively, and they went on the road to eliminate Croatia in four.

even if they do falter in the first two singles rubbers, they might be better off playing tipsa in the doubles.
