American Andy Roddick lost no time getting past Finland’s Jarkko Nieminen. The American skated into the third round in straight sets.
Andy Roddick took one hour and two minutes to dismantle veteran Jarkko Nieminen. The Finn had been in outstanding form coming into the Paris Masters. He made the finals in Bangkok and the semifinals in Stockholm last month. Despite his momentum, Roddick had no trouble taking apart Nieminen’s game.
Roddick only had five aces in the opening set, but his first serve was still effective enough that he did not face a single break point. Nieminen, on the other hand, was broken early and often to give Roddick an easy 6-1 lead.
Nieminen put up a slightly better showing in the second set, but he never got a whiff at Roddick’s serve. The American only secured a single break of serve in the second set, but it was easily enough to close out the match in straight sets.
Roddick will take on Latvia’s Ernests Gulbis, who has benefited from a pair of retirements to get into the third round.
