Roger Federer makes quick work of Richard Gasquet on Wednesday in Paris. Federer is set for a third-round meeting with Radek Stepanek.
It did not take long for Roger Federer to improve upon his 2009 BNP Paribas Masters performance.
Federer, who lost his opening match last year to Julien Benneteau, dismissed Richard Gasquet 6-4, 6-4 in the Paris second round on Wednesday evening. The No. 1 seed needed just one hour and eight minutes to set up a third-round clash against Radek Stepanek.
One break was easily enough for Federer in each set, because he completely dominated on serve. The break came at 1-1 in the first frame of play and Federer dropped only three points in five service games.
After serving it out at 5-4, the world No. 2 struck immediately in set two. He converted his fourth break-point opportunity to end a marathon game and seize a 1-0 advantage. From there it was all over for Gasquet, who never came close to getting back on serve. The 28th-ranked Frenchman won just seven return points in the second set even though Federer served at a mere 52 percent.
Federer finished with seven aces and no double-faults while winning 23 of 26 first-serve points. Gasquet wrapped up his effort with five aces and one double-fault.
