(4) David Ferrer def. (2) Robin Soderling 6-3, 3-6, 6-3
Fourth seed David Ferrer made his fifth ATP World Tour final on Saturday following his three-set victory over second seed Robin Soderling. The Spaniard, who trailed the Swede 8-3 in the head-to-head series, came through the semifinal in one hour and 57 minutes. After relinquishing a break lead at 3-1 in set three, Ferrer regained the edge with a key break in the sixth game.
"I didn't serve that well today unfortunately. I served well earlier in the week, but not today unfortunately," Soderling explained. "I had three very good matches this week - a semifinal is good. Today was a good match as well and he played very well. You can't win every tournament. I will learn from this. I only have two tournaments left this season so I want to do well in them."
(LL) Marcel Granollers def. Gilles Simon 6-4, 6-4
Lucky loser Marcel Granollers advanced to the final with a straight-set win against Gilles Simon. The 24-year-old Spaniard secured four of 13 break chances through 94 minutes of play. The Frenchman struggled on serve, committing six double-faults. Granollers stumbled after taking a 4-1 lead in the second set, but he held on to seal the match.
"The final will be very tough, but I'm confident and I hope to carry on the strong run I have been on in the past few days," said Granollers. "I'm taking advantage very well of the second opportunity the tournament has given me to play after losing in qualifying. That's tennis!"
