"It was a very good match, probably the best match so far in the tournament for me," Soderling said. "I served well and moved well so I'm really happy with the way I played today. I really like this surface; it's perfect for my game. It's similar to Paris and London. I have some good tournaments coming up, so if I can keep playing well I will have good chances to win."

    Gilles Simon def. (6) Nikolay Davydenko 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-3

The world No. 52 will make his second Tour-level semifinal appearance on Saturday.

"Today I had to fight on every point, it was really hard," said Simon. "I had to defend perfectly, but tomorrow I will have to be more aggressive and I hope I will be able to do it. I'm feeling good again. I had a long injury, playing injured for six months and then stopping for six months. Finally I feel in good shape again. I'm just happy to be back in good shape."

Simon will meet lucky loser Marcel Granollers in the semifinals. The Spaniard rallied to beat Juan Monaco in the quarterfinals, 1-6, 6-3, 6-4.
