Hometown hope David Ferrer set a semifinal meeting with Robin Soderling after defeating Potito Starace in the Valencia Open 500 quarterfinal. Lucky loser Marcel Granollers also advanced, having downed Juan Monaco.

Fourth seed David Ferrer made the last four in Valencia following his straight-set win against Potito Starace. The 28-year-old Spaniard struck seven aces and captured 89% of his first-service points through 88 minutes. Ferrer is through to his fourth hard-court semi, having earned previous berths in Johannesburg, Kuala Lumpur and Beijing.
The 2008 Valencia champion will face world No. 5 Robin Soderling in the semifinal. The second-seeded Swede beat eighth seed Gael Monfils in the quarterfinal, 6-3, 6-2.
(LL) Marcel Granollers def. Juan Monaco 1-6, 6-3, 6-4
Marcel Granollers reached the semifinal after rallying to oust Juan Monaco on Friday, 1-6, 6-3, 6-4. The Spaniard trailed 4-2 in the deciding set, but fought back to take four consecutive games. The 24-year-old Barcelona native ended the two-hour and 16-minute match with five of seven break chances converted.
Granollers is slated to battle Gilles Simon for a place in the final. The Frenchman came through his quarterfinal clash with Nikolay Davydenko, 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-3.
