Former champion David Ferrer made the Valencia Open 500 quarterfinals by virtue of his straight-set success against qualifier Teymuraz Gabashvili. Gael Monfils also advanced, having downed Stanislas Wawrinka, 6-2, 6-4.

Fourth seed David Ferrer advanced to his 11th quarterfinal of the season after defeating round of 16 opponent Teymuraz Gabashvili. The world No. 8 held eight consecutive service games without facing a break point. Gabashvili struggled with the return, unable to win more than four points through 71 minutes of play. Ferrer completed the day with four service breaks and 32 of 36 service points captured.
The fourth seed will meet Potito Starace in the quarterfinal. The Italian held on to oust qualifier Pablo Cuevas in the round of 16, 7-6(2), 2-6, 6-2.

Eighth seed Gael Monfils is through to final eight following his straight-set win over Stanislas Wawrinka late Thursday. The 24-year-old Frenchman converted four of 14 break chances in 91 minutes of competition. After trailing by a set and 3-1 in the second, the Swiss battled back to level. Monfils regrouped to break in the seventh game, reestablishing his edge at 4-3.
Monfils is due to face second seed Robin Soderling for a spot in the semifinals. The Swede came through his round of 16 clash with Daniel Gimeno-Traver, 6-2, 6-3.
