World No. 5 Robin Soderling advanced to the final eight at the Valencia Open 500, after posting a straight-set victory over Daniel Gimeno-Traver. The Swede is joined in the quarterfinals by Nikolay Davydenko, also a winner in straight sets.

Fifth seed Robin Soderling won his 50th match of the season on Thursday, having downed Daniel Gimeno-Traver in straight sets. The Swede held nine of nine service games en route to a 6-2, 6-3 success in just 62 minutes. Despite a modest percentage of first serves made, Soderling struck five aces and captured 24 of 26 of the points.
The world No. 5 will face either 8th seed Gael Monfils or Stanislas Wawrinka in the quarterfinal.
(6) Nikolay Davydenko def. Juan Ignacio Chela 7-6(0), 6-2
Sixth seed Nikolay Davydenko is through to the quarterfinal, following his straight-set victory over Juan Ignacio Chela. The 29-year-old Russian, who had trailed the Argentine 6-1 in the series, secured six of eight break chances during the match. Davydenko returned well, having won more than 55% of both first and second service points.
He is slated to meet Gilles Simon for a place in the semifinal. The Frenchman defeated third seed Fernando Verdasco in the round of 16, 6-1, 6-3.
