Michael Chang will have to stand aside in senior play in the luxury Caribbean resort of Grand Cayman as the 38-year-old awaits the birth of his first child.
Officials at the event said that the 1989 French Open winner - youngest man to ever win a Grand Slam at age 17 - pulled out to be with his pregnant wife.
Chang married former American player Amber Liu, in October of 2008.
The Chinese-American player will be replaced in the field by 1986 French Open finalist Mikael Pernfors, who will challenge for the title along with Swede Stefan Edberg, new US Davis Cup captain Jim Courier, and Russian draw-card Marat Safin, among others.
"I was very much looking forward to competing in the event at the Cayman Islands however at this time I need to be with my wife as we eagerly await the birth of our first child," said Chang, who retired at the US Open in 2003 after a first-round loss.
Safin's vow when he retired less than a year ago to stay well away from tennis has failed in spectacular style, with the personable Russian never shy about getting involved in any exho or senior event going.
Safin was front and center at the player part during the recent Kremlin Cup in Moscow as the lure of the spotlight is apparently proving to be as big a draw for him as ever.
