World No. 10 Mikhail Youzhny survived a tough test in the quarterfinal, having rallied to defeat 8th seed Victor Hanescu on Friday. The top seed is through to the final four at the St. Petersburg Open.

Top seed Mikhail Youzhny fought his way into the last four, after rallying to down 8th seed Victor Hanescu Friday evening. The Russian held 17 of 17 service games en route to the three-set victory in two hours and 47 minutes. Youzhny reached match point at 6-5 in the third-set tiebreak, but did not convert. Another match point came at 7-6 for the Russian, who closed to make his sixth semifinal of the season.
Youzhny will take on either countryman Dmitry Tursunov or Alexandr Dolgopolov in the next round.
Mikhail Kukushkin def. (3) Janko Tipsarevic 7-5, 3-6, 6-4
Mikhail Kukushkin made his first Tour semifinal of the season, following his three-set ousting of 3rd seed Janko Tipsarevic. The 22-year-old, ranked World No. 88, saved eight of 11 break points through two hours and 39 minutes of play. Despite a 10-ace tally during the match, Tipsarevic struggled on serve in set three. The Serb faltered, unable to win more than 30% of his second-serve points.
Kukushkin is slated to face Illya Marchenko in the semifinal. Marchenko defeated Benjamin Becker in the quarterfinal, 6-4, 2-6, 6-2.
