World No. 10 Mikhail Youzhny made a strong start to the week with a straight-set victory over Daniel Brands of Germany. Moscow champion Viktor Troicki had his campaign cut short after falling to veteran Rainer Schuettler

Top seed Mikhail Youzhny is through to the round of 16 following his 6-4, 6-1, opening-round win over Daniel Brands. The Russian faced no break points en route to a victory in just 62 minutes. Youzhny, who secured four of 6 break chances, captured 22 of 23 first-serve points during the match. Brands struggled with the return, unable to win more than three points in total.
Youzhny will face qualifier Evgeny Donskoy for a place in the quarterfinal. Donskoy defeated wildcard Andrey Kuznetsov in the first round, 7-5, 7-6(2).
Rainer Schuettler def. (5) Viktor Troicki 6-3, 4-6, 6-3
Rainer Schuettler made the final 16 after upsetting fifth seed Viktor Troicki on Wednesday. The German veteran saved nine of 12 break points through two hours and 11 minutes. The Serbian faltered on serve in the decider, having won only 29% of the points.
Schuettler is due to take on Alexandr Dolgopolov in the round of 16. Dolgopolov took out Fabio Fognini in the opening round, 7-6(5), 6-4.
