  • Philippoussis wants to make a comeback try

    10/27/10 6:07 PM | Johan Lindahl
    Philippoussis wants to make a comeback try While Thomas Muster works on his return to tennis at age 43, Mark Philippoussis - a decade younger - is pondering a similar plan.

    The party-boy Australian known more for his love of the big-spending lifestyle than his dedication to the practise court, claims to be re-energized by a pair of senior circuit wins. Like Muster who had a go on the ATP through a wild card in Vienna - and took a loss - Philippoussis says he's ready to think about a comeback as well.

    Philippoussis came up champion at senior events in Arizona last week and in Boston in May, prompting senior tour organizer and new American Davis Cup coach Jim Courier to tip that his former rival is on the verge once again.

    "I’ve just fallen back in love with the sport on the Champions Series," said Philippoussis. "It’s just great and since I’ve gotten that love back, my body has been getting stronger.

    "I feel I can hit the ball just as hard as the guys on the ATP, so why not give it a go if I’m having this much fun?" said the two-time Grand Slam finalist, whose last ATP match was a 2006 loss to Rafael Nadal at the US Open.

    The Aussie has undergone six knee surgeries and has never been able to count on continuing fitness.
    Philippoussis said he was inspired by a few training sessions with American Andy Roddick at the Aussie's US base in San Diego.

Thing is Mark, hitting the ball hard isn't enough, you've got to be able to move well too, and you've never had that man, and the guys today, they run faster than ever before.

Save yourself from humiliation. Hang the racquet up for good.

This is not going to go well......

Cal - methinks Flip is out of money again.

So this is the state of Australian tennis .... a broken down, self obsessed 33(?) year old who thinks making ANOTHER comeback is a good idea and a brat with his barbie wife who wants people to pay to learn his daughter's name??? God help us.......

Hopefully Patrick, with the assistance of Tony, can bring some dignity back to our shores without the help of these two.

Maybe Muster and Flip should have a tour all on their own, so they can play each other all the time, as they will be at the same level.

@Cheryl - What do you mean again? He's never been good with money, only chasing the "dream" of having fast cars and chase girls. He has had money troubles since his tennis earnings took a nosedive when he was out of the sport. I didn't think he had recovered from that.

@cal23 - Let's hope so.

There should be a Come Back Tour for the Come Back Kids.
