Veteran Michael Russell made the second round at the St. Petersburg Open, after taking out wildcard Igor Andreev in straight sets. The American is joined in round two by Mikhail Kukukshin, who ousted Jeremy Chardy.

Mikhail Kukushkin recorded his second victory in as many weeks over Jeremy Chardy on Monday. The World No. 88 rallied from a set down to score a three-set win in one hour and 52 minutes. Chardy, seeded seventh this week, committed eight double faults during the match. The Frenchman struggled on second serve, unable to win more than 25% of the points. Kukushkin completed the day with eight of 19 break points converted.
He faces Teymuraz Gabashvili for a place in the quarterfinal. The Russian rallied to defeat Filippo Volandri in the opening round, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.

World No. 87 Michaell Russell made the round of 16, following his straight-set success against wildcard Igor Andreev. The 32-year-old American saved nine of 11 break chances through 92 minutes of play. Russell, who improved to 11-20 at the tour level this season, won his first ATP World Tour match since Atlanta in July.
Russell will next take on either third seed Janko Tipsarevic or Igor Kunitsyn in the round of 16.
