Philipp Kohlschreiber eases past Alejandro Falla on Monday in Vienna. Kohlschreiber is joined in the second round by Andreas Seppi, who made short work of Martin Fischer.
(7) Philipp Kohlschreiber d. Alejandro Falla 6-0, 6-3
Kohlschreiber needed just 55 minutes to crush Falla and reach the second round of the Bank Austria Tennis Trophy on Monday. The German completely dominated right from the start as he lost a mere nine points in the entire first set. His third break of the evening finished off the opening fame of play in style.
Falla appeared to be on the way back early in the second, but he quickly gave back a break. The underdog Colombian extended his opponent to deuce at 3-5, but Kohlschreiber soon served out the proceedings. Vienna's No. 7 seed, who finished with five aces and two double-faults, awaits either Tobias Kamke or Matthias Bachinger.
Andreas Seppi d. (WC) Martin Fischer 6-3, 6-3
Only two Austrians remain--one being 43-year-old Thomas Muster--after Fischer went down to Seppi in just one hour and 10 minutes on Monday. The wild card endured a miserable serving day in which he put in only 44 percent of his first offerings. That allowed Seppi to break three times in the opening set, the third of which came at 5-3.
One break was enough for the Italian to take the second because he saved both of the break points he faced. Seppi consolidated by serving out the match at 5-3. He will battle either Muster or lucky loser Andreas Haider-Maurer for a spot in the quarterfinals.
