(1) Roger Federer def. (5/WC) Staniaslas Wawrinka 2-6, 6-3, 6-2
Top seed Roger Federer overcame a poor start to his quarterfinal-round clash with compatriot Stanislas Wawrinka Friday evening. The 29-year-old trailed 2-6, 0-2 before fighting his way through to a three-set victory. After splitting the first two sets, Federer broke the Wawrinka serve and 2-2 and 4-2 in the third. A missed service return at 5-2 gave the world No. 2 the win in one hour and 48 minutes.
Federer is scheduled to take on veteran Ivan Ljubicic for a place in the final. The fourth seed rallied to defeated qualifier Ivan Dodig in the quarterfinal, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.
Florian Mayer def. (2) Robin Soderling 7-6(8), 6-1
World No. 47 Florian Mayer is through to the final four, following his upset of second seed Robin Soderling. The 27-year-old German held 10 of 10 service games through one hour and 22 minutes of play. After a close opening set, the Swede failed to recover with only 22% of his second-serve points won.
Mayer will take on Jarkko Nieminen in the semifinals. The Finn crushed wildcard James Blake in the quarterfinal, 6-0, 6-2.
