Roger Federer completed a quick flit halfway around the world and is now in position for his first start at the Stockholm Open in ten years.
A decade ago as a teenager, the Swiss won a round at the Kungligahallen before going out in his next to then-Swedish hope Andreas Vinciguerra.
But little more than 24 hours after losing the Shanghai Masters final to Andy Murray, Federer announced on Facebook that he had landed in the Swedish capital. his headline act this week will fulfill a promise to new tournament organizers Thomas Johansson and Jonas Bjorkman, both only recently retired from the ATP and longtime friends of Federer,
Federer had been due to play the event in 2008 but withdrew to rest after beating glandular fever at the start of that year.
"It was disappointing pulling out there a couple of years ago," said the world No. 2. "That was the decision behind that. I felt like I owed Stockholm to come back. I also hope playing Stockholm is going to help me to play well in Basel, Paris and then London. There are still a lot of points to pick up and many important events for me."
