World No. 5 Robin Soderling made the final eight at the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Shanghai after taking out World No. 10 David Ferrer on Thursday. The Swede came through in straight sets.
Fifth seed Robin Soderling is through to the Shanghai quarterfinals following his 7-5, 6-4 victory over round of 16 opponent David Ferrer. The Swede converted four of 14 break-point opportunities through one hour and 46 minutes of play.
With the third-round win on Thursday, Soderling extended his season record to 47-17. The 26-year-old booked his third consecutive quarterfinal in Asia, adding to successful runs in Kuala Lumpur and Beijing.
Soderling is scheduled to face world No. 3 Roger Federer for a place in the semifinal. The Swiss defeated Andreas Seppi in the third round, 6-3, 6-4.
