    Isner saves 7 match points to reach round two John Isner reached the second round in Shanghai, after outlasting a determined Lukasz Kubot on Tuesday. The American is joined in round two by Janko Tipsarevic, who defeated Andrey Golubev in straight sets.

    World No. 20 John Isner narrowly avoided a first round exit, having rallied to upend qualifier Lukasz Kubot in three sets. The American, who saved three match points in set two and four in set three, battled through to a 4-6, 7-6(9), 7-6(7) victory in two hours and 49 minutes. Isner crushed 24 aces and held five of 6 break points during the match.

    The 25-year-old is scheduled to face world No. 3 Roger Federer for a place in the round of 16.

    World No. 37 Janko Tipsarevic advanced following his 6-3, 6-4 ousting of Andrey Golubev on Tuesday afternoon. The Serbian secured three of 11 break points through one hour and 23 minutes of play. The 26-year-old, who won his 22nd tour-level match of the season, successfully rebounded after a first-round loss to Mardy Fish in Beijing.

    Tipsarevic will take on fifth seed Robin Soderling in the second round.
