World No. 10 David Ferrer made the second round at the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Shanghai after taking out veteran Michael Llodra in straight sets on Tuesday.
Eleventh seed David Ferrer made a successful start to the 2010 Masters 1000 Shanghai on Tuesday, having downed first-round opponent Michael Llodra, 7-6(2), 6-1. The 28-year-old Spaniard held 10 of 10 service games without facing a break point.
After taking the opening set in a tiebreak, Ferrer earned a 3-1 edge as Llodra netted a backhand volley. An insurance break came at 4-1 for the world No. 10, who closed on a backhand winner. Ferrer held match point at 5-1, then sealed the victory with another backhand winner.
The Spaniard ended the 69-minute match with 30 winners and 91% of his first-serve points captured.
He moves on to face either Thomaz Bellucci or qualifier Marsel Ilhan in the next round.
