(2) Andy Roddick def. Jeremy Chardy 6-4, 7-6(4)
Second seed Andy Roddick made his ninth quarterfinal of the season after downing round of 16 opponent Jeremy Chardy on Thursday. The world No. 10 held 11 of 11 service games on his way to a 6-4, 7-6(4) victory. Solid on serve, the American won 83% of his first-service points through 91 minutes of play.
"I was very happy with the way I played, I played very well on the big points," said Roddick. "Today was pretty encouraging for me. He is always dangerous as he plays high-risk tennis and he served well today."
The former Japan Open semifinalist is slated to meet fifth seed Gael Monfils in the next round.
(5) Gael Monfils def. Andreas Seppi 6-4, 6-4
Fifth seed Gael Monfils is through to the final eight, having recorded a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Andreas Seppi. The Frenchman struck seven aces and secured three of eight break chances through 77 minutes. With the round of 16 success, Monfils extended his season mark to 32-15.
"Today was better than the first round but I can still play better," said Monfils. "I am still a bit slow and not using enough my forehand. It will be a tough match against Andy, I have known him for a long time. It will be an interesting match."
Monfils has a slender 4-3 series edge against Roddick.
