Benjamin Becker is through to the PTT Thailand Open quarterfinals after taking out second seed Fernando Verdasco in straight sets. The German is joined by veteran Jarkko Nieminen, who ousted 2009 finalist Viktor Troicki.

Benjamin Becker earned his second career victory over world No. 8 Fernando Verdasco on Thursday. The 29-year-old German, through to his first ATP World Tour quarter since June, struck nice aces through one hour and 27 minutes of play. An erratic Verdasco, who dropped to 47-18 for the season, hit a trio of double faults at 4-4 in the second set.
Becker will meet fellow German Daniel Brands for a place in the semifinal. Brands defeated sixth seed Thiemo De Bakker in the round of 16, 7-6(2), 1-6, 7-6(7).
Jarkko Nieminen def. (7) Viktor Troicki 7-6(4), 6-2
Veteran Jarkko Nieminen made the quarterfinals following his straight-set win against 2009 runner-up Viktor Troicki. The 29-year-old Finn saved 14 of 15 break points en route to a 7-6(4), 6-2 success in one hour and 41 minutes. With the round of 16 victory, Nieminen booked his second consecutive ATP World Tour quarters.
The world No. 60 is next to face third seed Jurgen Melzer. The Austrian downed Dudi Sela in the second round, 6-3, 6-4.
