    Bangkok - Melzer moves on, De Bakker falls Third seed Jurgen Melzer is through to the PTT Thailand Open quarterfinal following his straight-set success over Dudi Sela on Thursday. Daniel Brands also moved ahead after upending sixth seed Thiemo De Bakker.

    World No. 13 Jurgen Melzer earned his third consecutive victory over Dudi Sela Thursday afternoon. The 2009 Bangkok semifinalist needed 76 minutes to secure a second-round win in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. With passage into his 10th ATP World Tour quarterfinal, the 29-year-old Austrian improved his 2010 season record to 42-21.

    Melzer will face either seventh seed Viktor Troicki or Jarkko Nieminen in the next round.

    Daniel Brands def. (6) Thiemo De Bakker 7-6(2), 1-6, 7-6(7)

    Daniel Brands is through to the final eight after upsetting 6th seed Thiemo De Bakker on Thursday. The unseeded German struck 13 aces en route to a 7-6(2), 1-6, 7-6(7) win in two hours and 13 minutes of play. The 23-year-old will mark his first appearance in a tour-level quarterfinal since May of 2009.

    Brands will meet the winner of the second-round clash between compatriot Benjamin Becker and second seed Fernando Verdasco.
