Gilles Simon eases past Philipp Kohlschreiber in the Metz semifinals on Saturday. Simon will meet Mischa Zverev for the title.
Gilles Simon beat Philipp Kohlschreiber for the second time in three weeks on Saturday. This time, it was much easier.
Simon, who overcame Kohlschreiber in five sets at the U.S. Open, cruised 6-3, 6-2 in the semifinals the Open de Moselle. The eighth-seeded Frenchman needed a mere 53 minutes to set up a final clash against Mischa Zverev.
Dominating from start to finish, Simon fired eight aces without double-faulting and dropped only six service points in the entire match. One break was enough for the world No. 41 to take the first set and he added two more in the second before serving it out at 5-2.
"Today I played my best tennis," said Simon. "From beginning to end I was solid, and to beat a player such as Philipp like this shows that I am playing with confidence."
Zverev got a walkover past Richard Gasquet, who pulled out due to illness.
