Defending champion Albert Montanes made a successful start to his BCR Open title defense with a straight-set victory over Tobias Kamke. The Spaniard is joined by Juan Ignacio Chela, also through to the quarters in straight sets.
(1) Albert Montanes def. Tobias Kamke 6-4, 6-4
Top seed Albert Montanes earned safe passage into the Bucharest quarterfinal, following his 6-4, 6-4 defeat of second-round opponent Tobias Kamke. The world No. 22 held nine of 10 service games through 83 minutes of play. The German struggled on serve, unable to make more than 40% of his first serves.
Montanes will face 8th seed Jeremy Chardy for a place in the semifinal. The Frenchman reached the quarterfinals with a 6-2, 6-4 win against qualifier Simone Vagnozzi.
(4) Juan Ignacio Chela def. Simon Greul 6-1, 6-0
Fourth seed Juan Ignacio Chela cruised to a straight-set win over German Simon Greul in 55 minutes. The veteran Argentine secured five of 10 break chances during the second-round clash. Greul, who did not earn a break point throughout the 6-1, 6-0 match, was held to a mere nine points on the return.
Chela is slated to take on Bjorn Phau in the quarterfinal. The German downed wildcard Adrian Ungur in the second round, 6-2, 6-4.
