Host nation France earned passage into the Davis Cup final with a perfect 5-0 sweep against three-time finalist Argentina. France will meet Serbia for the title later this year.
After winning both singles rubbers on Friday, host nation France carried a critical 2-0 edge into doubles competition on Saturday. The veteran doubles pairing of Michael Llodra and Arnaud Clement sealed the victory for France, downing Horacio Zeballos and Eduardo Schwank in straight sets.
Former world No. 6 Gilles Simon and Clement completed the 5-0 run for France on Sunday.
The French will be in contention for their 10th Davis Cup title, as they travel to Serbia in December. France captured its last Davis Cup crown in 2001.
Captain Guy Forget discussed the prospect of facing a determined Serbian squad at home:
"Now, playing Serbia, well that’s another story. You know how hot the crowd will be over there, wanting to win the Davis Cup for the first time. It would be a nightmare for the players but they’re not young and they have experience and will be ready for the task. They will have to play at their best and if we do that and win it will be one of the biggest upsets in Davis Cup, like we did a few years ago in Australia."
Serbia trailed 1-2 heading into live singles on Sunday. US Open finalist Novak Djokovic leveled the tie with a four-set success against Tomas Berdych. Janko Tipsarevic cemented the semifinal win for Serbia, after defeating Radek Stepanek in straight sets.
The Davis Cup final, to be held in Serbia, will commence on the 3rd of December.
