Serbia’s Novak Djokovic advanced to the quarterfinals of the US Open on Monday with an impressive win over American Mardy Fish 6-3, 6-4, 6-1.
Mardy Fish’s dream summer has come to end. The American racked up 2 titles, and made a run to the finals of Cincinnati in the lead-up to the US Open. He was not able to get past No. 3 seed Novak Djokovic, however.
Djokovic started off the match in impressive style. The Serb secured a service break right out of the gates, but Fish was able to break back immediately. Not to be outdone, Djokovic secured yet another break of Fish’s serve. Only in the Serb’s second service game was he able to stop the bloodletting.
Fish was able to hold for the rest of the set, but Djokovic stayed in firm control of things and closed out the set at 6-3.
The American continued to struggle to find his rhythm in the second set. Fish’s range was slightly off and his serve was not clicking as it has for much of the summer. Djokovic secured the only break of the set at 2-2, from which Fish was not able to recover.
Fish seemed to grow more and more tired as the match went on. By the third set, the American was not getting to balls quickly enough; Djokovic took advantage with another pair of service breaks to close out the match 6-1.

Nole played very well, and as expected, beaten Fish in a relatively easy match. Not surprising as Nole is definitely a better player than Fish, whether Fish lost 30 lbs or not. Fish simply doesn't have the game to trouble Nole, even though he may be faster in his movements now. His game is still the same, more the S & V, net rushing style. Nole is quick around the court, can come to the net too (though I think net play is still not his strength) and can pass Fish at the net with his backhand DTL or FDTL passing shots. Unless Nole played like crap, which fortunately he didn't, Fish will not beat Nole!
PS. One question I like to make, why then did Fed go the distance to beat Fish at the Cincy Masters, when Fed certainly has the game, like Nole, to beat Fish comfortably?

Djoko was impressive and Fish was at sea, if you'll excuse the pun. I've been saying for the last week that Djoko is the man to watch, as long as he doesn't overtake Rafa. Having said that, Djoko made rather a lot of UE - 28, which were cancelled out by 30 winners, against Fish's 30 UE and only 13 winners
Djokovic was too much for Fish at the end of the day.

Luckystar - I guess u can't really compare like that. Maybe Fish played better that day. Or maybe Djokovx is just a bad matchup for Fish.

Could not watch the matches live the last few days due to the sudden demise of someone very close to us.
Did see the match and Nole did play flawless tennis dominating. A notice to Rog/Sod as he meets one of them next in the semi.
Watch out the blockbuster.
