Serbia’s Novak Djokovic advanced to the third round of the US Open with a straight sets win over Germany’s Philipp Petzschner 7-5, 6-3, 7-6(6)
For two sets, this match appeared to be firmly in the control of Novak Djokovic. Petzschner was not able to find the vicious ground strokes that lead him to push Rafael Nadal to 5 sets at Wimbledon this year.
Djokovic cruised along the opening two sets playing solid tennis. The Serb secured one service break in each of the first two sets while Petzschner struggled on the return.
Petzschner got into trouble early in the third set, with Djokovic earning a break of serve for 4-3. The Serb served for 5-3, but he threw in a terrible service game and Petzschner broke back for 4-4.
The rest of the match was tightly contested, with each man holding serve to force a tiebreaker. The breaker itself was tense, but neither man could seem to hold onto the minibreak lead until Petzschner sent a wild forehand 2 feet beyond the baseline.

Yes Nole is slowly but steadily getting back his game. I'm so happy for his win, hope he plays even better against Blake. I want to see a Nole/Gasquet QF, I can't remember when was the last time they played each other. Of course one match at a time, they have to get there first.

Nole seems to have finally got into his stride. Petzy is a tough customer but Nole had all the answers last night.
