Andy Murray rolls over Lukas Lacko on Wednesday at the U.S. Open. Murray is joined in the second round by John Isner, who silenced injury questions.
Andy Murray kicked off his 2010 U.S. Open campaign in routine fashion on Wednesday afternoon, easing past Lacko 6-3, 6-2, 6-2. Murray needed just one hour and 51 minutes of play to set up a second-round clash against Dustin Brown.
The fourth-ranked Scot broke serve early in each set, and that was enough for him to take the first. Murray donated his own serve once in the second, but he made up for it with an additional three breaks. Lacko went away quietly in the third, double-faulting four times and winning only six return points.
Murray finished with 37 winners and 28 errors while the 22-year-old Slovak wrapped up his effort with 20 winners against 27 mistakes.
John Isner joined Murray in the second round with an impressive injury-free performance, overwhelming Frederico Gil 6-4, 6-3, 6-4. Isner, who suffered torn ankle ligaments just two weeks ago in Cincinnati, moved well and served big to advance after one hour and 57 minutes.
Gil managed to stay on serve with Isner for a while, but the Portuguese clay-courter cracked at the most inopportune time at 4-5 in the first set. Isner's first break of the match gave him a one-set advantage and from there it was all over.
The 6'9'' American broke immediately in the second frame of play on the way to a 3-0 lead and his break in the third came at 4-4. Isner blasted three straight aces starting at 5-4, 15-15 to finish off the match in style.
Next up for the No. 18 seed, who finished with 19 aces, is Marco Chiudinelli.
