Newly-crowned Cincinnati champion Roger Federer is well and truly ready for any potential US open final pitting himself against Rafael Nadal.
Their meeting, should it come in just over two weeks, would mark a second hard-court Grand Slam final for the elite pair after Nadal won their meeting in 2009 in Australia.
"Unfortunately we hardly ever get a chance to play here in the States where conditions maybe suit me more. That's the way it is," said Federer, comfortable with his five New York trophies from six finals.
"I think we get excited when we play each other, but I don't think we miss each other when we don't play. We've had that many matches against each other, and the matches are tough and grueling on both of us. There's a huge hype around it, which is also a bit exhausting at times."
The 29-year-old would be keen to erase a blot on his Flushing Meadows record after going down in five sets a year ago in the title match against Argentine Juan Martin Del Potro, missing from the title defense as he heals slowly after wrist surgery which has kept him away from the ATP since late January.

Pennster, why always pick on Murray. Anyway what the experts said don't mean much, the matches have to be played. No one can guarantee that Fed will make it this time to the final. Wasn't him one of the favorites too at Wimbledon, and looked how 'far' he had gone there? Murray fared better than Fed at Wimbledon, one of Fed's favorite slams!

Does anyone know when th schedule comes out?
Maya , 8/28/10 4:34 AM
Mr. Federer will play better than he did at Wimbledon. It's going to be fun. C'MON!
sky , 8/28/10 5:28 AM
Yes sky, I know Fed is playing better now. It's just that pennster keeps picking on Murray for no reason that makes people fed up. I'm sure these top guys will do their best to win.
luckystar , 8/28/10 5:39 AM
sounds like you are really letting this guy get to you luckystar, (if you don't mind my advice) why not just have fun, and ignore the people you don't connect with (warning, it takes a little practice)

Very wonderful Roger. But, Fedal is boredom. I'm sorry. Roger
Final that I wish.
Roger vs Andy. Novak vs Andy.. But, I love Roger. I wishes your victory

luckstar: I really don't understand the mentality of people who just keep on and on posting negatively, what is their problem? But thanks :)
sky: so much easier said than done!! AND far more supporters of your guy, so it makes it a whole lot easier for you.

My ultimate dream for RG was for Sod to beat Roger in the SF, and for Rafa to beat Sod in the final, for Rafa to really atone for his loss of the trophy the previous year. I didn't want to actually say it so as not to jinx Rafa. And yes it came to pass far fetched as it might seem.
I have an ultimate dream for the USO, which I am not going to say out loud, I'll see how that pans out.
VAMOS!

Nadal-Fed finals are SO overrated. Just 2 (Roma and Wimbledon) of them have been really ejoyable. Moreover, you already know who's gonna win before the match starts. So boring.
Emiliano55 , 8/28/10 9:02 PM
tennisnba and Emiliano, perhaps it's not that FEDAL tennis is boring.
Perhaps you all cannot concentrate when the platinum standard of tennis is being exhibited, and your flitty minds just bore far too easily.

A Nadal -Federer match is still the most significant event in tennis. Not only because it's a great contest but also more importantly it attracts interest from outside the sport, even on a gloabl level. A match up between the other players just can't generate the same kind of hype and appeal. It's good to hear Roger wanting to compete more against Rafa. He, like everyone realises Rafa is the biggest mark on his legacy. Rafa would still prevail in any potential US Open final that could even surpass their Wimbledon '08 final.. There are still a few chapters left in their rivalry and only when it ends will we truly appreciate how 'boring' their matches really were
Lebsta , 8/29/10 12:48 PM
I have watched, or been present at, most of the great tennis rivalries going all the way back to the days of Lew Hoad and Ken Rosewall. For me the duels between Rafa and Roger surpass them all.

The reason you don't want to see a Roger v's Rafa final is because you know against Rafa, Roger is more likely to lose and you couldnt bare Rafa completing a Career Slam younger than your man Roger and adding to his Grand Slam count.
So instead you want to see a Roger v's Andy or a Djokovic v's Andy final...nothing wrong with that if it was for legit reasons, but it doesnt matter does it because I think this year we are going to have a new champion...:)

Actually I like Rafa/Nole matches too. Remember Hamburg 08 semifinal; Queen's club 08 Final; Monte Carlo 09 Final; Rome 09 Final and of course that 'Death in the Afternoon' Madrid 09 semifinal! Rafa/Nole seem to bring out the best in each other and they have competed on all surfaces, saved the fast hard courts of NA. I 've watched their IW 2007 Final match where Rafa played so well to beat a not so experienced Nole; Nole then turned the table against Rafa in Miami the following week in the QF. They have competed at the Olympics 08 and the TMC Shanghai 07 too! Strange thing is they have not met each other in the hard court slams! H2H is 14-7 in Rafa's favor, that means they had competed against each other for 21 times! Rafa vs Fed is also 14-7, ie 21 times.
luckystar , 8/29/10 2:29 PM
Oh I've forgotten that Rafa/Nole did compete on the fast hard courts of NA. They had met in 2008 and 2009 Cincy semifinals and both times Nole won. Nole is simply better than Rafa on the fast hard courts; both times he beat Rafa in straight sets. Nole had also beaten Rafa at the Montreal 07 semifinal.

What can I say, you just stole the words from my mouth...........
Anyway .......How can anyone with a love for tennis say FEDAL matches are overrated????? It boggles my mind, Whenever they have competed against each other they have created sheer magic on court ........ they know about each others strengths and weaknesses so well...... their shot selection is unbelievable amazing when they are competing against each other. They always raise their game to amazing new standards when they face each other. And according to me anyone who doesn't want a FEDAL final is clearly bitter that their favorite player didn't make the final cut !!!!!!!!

Looking at the men's US Open draw and I don't agree with how the top 8 players are seated.
Makes sense that #1 plays in same quarter as #8, but why isn't #2 in the same quarter as #7, then #3 with #6 and then #4 with #5. The way it is now set up #2 would play #5 in the bottom quarter - i.e. Federer vs. Soderling not Fed vs. #7 Berdych. The quarter with Murray #4 gets to play #7. Hence #4 gets an easier draw than #2 Fed. Seems like a bit of an unfair advantage for the #1 seated player
Mike , 8/29/10 9:24 PM
Random drawn for the fifth to eight seeds to meet the one to fourth seeds in the QF. Given a choice Fed would prefer Verdasco, then Davy, then Sod and last Berdych. Berdych is clearly the most dangerous among those four as Davy wasn't back to his best self yet after coming back from his wrist injury. Fed should be happy drawing the fifth seed instead of the seventh seed in this case. I foresee Berdych will give Murray lots of problems if they meet in the QF.
Don't forget Berdych did beat Fed on the hard court at Miami besides beating Fed on grass at Wimbledon. The only guy not beating Fed yet among the fifth to eighth seeds is Verdasco, too bad he gets to Rafa's quarter instead of Fed's(rightfully so as Rafa is the top seed).

Though I am Roger's fan
I think that it really overvalues Fedal. This year's Madrid final. The Roger's play is not good. Nadal is Roger's back attack always. The last missed shot of Roger. He threw the game in the game of Spain.
Other players' games. That is purely more interesting.
tennisnba , 8/30/10 11:14 AM
Del potro was injured why. There were a possibility of successive victories if it was him.
tennisnba , 8/30/10 12:01 PM
He should be and he has no other choice but tell the world that he is ready but deep down inside he's shivering with fear.
Raindrops , 8/30/10 1:01 PM
There is a possibility that Delpo may defend his title if not injured, there is also a possibility of him not defending his title should he be around. It is never easy defending one's slam titles. We are spoiled by both Fed and Rafa in this era, and also that of Sampras and Borg. It is only great players who can time and again defend their slam titles. We see Hewitt, Safin, Roddick, Ferrero and Nole unable to do so. If Delpo is one great player in the making, he should have his chances of defending his title(s) in future. I hope Nole is also a great player in the making. I like him more and more, now that almost everyone is beginning to write him off. I hope he proves me right and all others wrong!! Go Nole! Go Rafa!

These experts all picked Fed or Nadal. No mention of Fugly Murray except as a flameout.
