Roger Federer has hooked up with coach Paul Annacone on a more permanent basis, with the high-profile arrangement finalized just in time for the start of the US Open.
Federer will bid for a sixth title in seven years at Flushing Meadows with the American mentor by his side. Annacone, currently serving out a contract with Britain's Lawn Tennis Association, had worked with the 16-time Grand Slam champion this month in person at Toronto and by telephone last week in Cincinnati.
Federer reached the Toronto final against Andy Murray and won the Cincinnati title for the fourth time as he beat Mardy Fish last Sunday.
"Paul and I have had a good trial period," Federer said on his website. "He will be working with me during the US Open and I look forward to having Paul as a member of my team going forward. He will be integrated more and more as his responsibilities with the LTA unwind."
Federer gave no indication of the role that Severin Luthi, his Davis Cup coach, good friend and traveling coach/adviser would play in the new setup.

Makes sense that #1 plays in same quarter as #8, but why isn't #2 in the same quarter as #7, then #3 with #6 and then #4 with #5. The way it is now set up #2 would play #5 in the bottom quarter - i.e. Federer vs. Soderling not Fed vs. #7 Berdych. The quarter with Murray #4 gets to play #7. Hence #4 gets an easier draw than #2 Fed. Seems like a bit of an unfair advantage for the #1 seated player

Mike - the Nos. 3 and 4 seeds are assigned to the top and bottom half randomly, and then the 5-8 seeds are assigned randomly to the 4 quarters. It just so happened this time that Nadal drew the No. 8 seed, but he could just as easily have drawn Berdych or Soderling.
