Sitting at the top of the rankings heap, Rafael Nadal really can't be bothered by the fact that no Americans hold a place in the ATP top ten, a recent development after Andy Roddick dropped from ninth to 11th to 13th.
On the current list, nine nationalities make up the top ten, with only Spain's Fernando Verdasco on eighth creating a nation duplication with Nadal. It's the first time in 37 years that at least one Yank has not been in the leading ten.
"Tennis is a global sport," Nadal said. "It doesn't change a lot if an American is eighth or 11th. It's not totally in America that you play tennis. Andy Roddick doesn't need to be Top 10 to be famous, He's done a lot for the tour the past 10 years."
That analysis seems OK with Roddick also, who has just recovered from a mild case of glandular fever. "That's fine," he said of his ranking fall. "I've done it before.
"When I'm playing well and fit, I'm one of the best in the world. I don't feel the need to prove that on a week to week basis. I've been proving that for ten years. I'm probably less concerned than everybody else."

That's a shame for Isner; I wonder if Karlovic will be playing.

I totally agree with Rafa, I just read a post on another forum where Federer was called foreigner - foreigner to which country, in this global sport of tennis.

Gotta love Roddick's answer. He's proven time and time again, for over 10 years that he's up there and his fans are aware of his all he's achieved. If one is happy with onesself, then the negative opinions don't count.
I believe Karlovic had surgery on his achilles tendon. The Tennis Channel ticker stated that he'll be back for the USO. Even if he does make it to the USO, he'll be very rusty. However, a good server is always a threat, as it's like just getting back on a bicycle once youve fallen off and ride by rote.

Talk Tennis/Johan Lindahl FAIL.
Roddick is now back in the top ten after a brief two week absence.

There may be a long time before another McEnroe, Connors, Agassi or Sampras appears in the tennis world. But with countries like Spain and France having so many top players right now, it's more likely that the next successor to Roger and Rafa will come out of one of those countries.
What America, Britain and Australia need to do to recover their former glory is to learn from Spain and France. Hire coaches and organizers from those countries and get back to promoting the sport among kids. America's obesity rate is highest than it's ever been, and more alarmingly so among children. It's time for kids to stop spending so much time playing with their wii's. Less virtual tennis and more of the real thing!

Way to go, and hooray for American Tennis!! It's sad though, that this one guy, Roddick, has to carry this once tennis rich country on his back. Anyway, on the positive side, we now have two guys in the SFs at Cincy. And, what better venue for this to happen, than right on American soil. I hope the Bryans do well also.
Agassi is trying his very best to get tennis moving with his academy. He has some good young players there. Hopefully, they'll be hitting the pros in a few years. I think Isner has what it takes to do well -- he's got lottta heart. Querrey is rather queer in his thinking. He seems to show up for the smaller tourneys, then he becomes *tapped out* (his words) and just bottoms out at the bigger tourneys against the veterans. He needs to stop thinking so negatively and wussy, and rise to the challenge. Roddick once stated that Querrey is an after-school player.
Let's see what Querrey will do at the USO -- he's had a long vacation. Unfortunately, Big John, will have to sit the USO out. Too bad!
