Denis Istomin cruised through his first-round match with James Blake on Tuesday, 6-3, 6-0. The 23-year-old is joined in round two by Philipp Kohlshcreiber, who rallied to take out Horacio Zeballos in three sets.

Denis Istomin advanced to the second round in Cincinnati after downing an uninspired James Blake, 6-3, 6-0. The qualifier struck 10 aces on his way to victory in just 46 minutes. A struggling American, who dropped serve four times during the match, failed to capture more than 26% of his second-service points. With the opening-round win, the World No. 53 secured his 22nd Tour-level success of the season.
Istomin is next to battle World No. 2 Roger Federer.
Philipp Kohlschreiber def. Horacio Zeballos 6-7(2), 6-3, 6-4
Philipp Kohlschreiber survived a difficult first-round match early Tuesday, as he defeated Horacio Zeballos in three close sets. The German crushed 14 aces and held 15 of 16 service games through two hours and 17 minutes of play. After splitting the first two sets, Kohlschreiber earned a critical break of the Zeballos serve in the decider. The 26-year-old passed through the third set without facing break point.
Kohlschreiber will collide with Alejandro Falla for a place in the round of 16. The qualifier upset 16th seed Gael Monfils in the first round, 6-3, 6-4.
