David Ferrer is through to the second round in Cincinnati after rallying to down Alexandr Dolgopolov in three sets. The Spaniard is joined by Sam Querrey, who won his opening-round match against Philipp Petzschner.

Tenth seed David Ferrer battled out of a set deficit during his first-round clash with Alexandr Dolgopolov Monday afternoon. The Spaniard secured three of 10 break chances to seal the victory in one hour and 56 minutes. After dropping the first set, Ferrer took advantage of an error-prone Dolgopolov, who tallied 59 during the match.
Ferrer moves ahead to meet Sam Querrey for a place in the round of 16.
Sam Querrey def. Philipp Petzschner 6-1, 6-4
Sam Querrey successfully leveled the series at 1-1 with Philipp Petzschner, as he recorded a straight-set win in 51 minutes. The American led 5-1 in the opening set, helped by a string of missed volleys from the German. After taking the first set in 16 minutes, Querrey built a 2-0 edge in the second. Petzschner recovered the break, only to trail once more at 4-5. A final missed forehand gave the 22-year-old the victory.
Querrey ended the afternoon with 7 aces and 15 winners.
