Stanislas Wawrinka reached the second round of the Rogers Cup after downing hometown hope Frank Dancevic Tuesday night. The Swiss is joined in round two by Jeremy Chardy, a three-set winner over Marcos Baghdatis.

Jeremy Chardy recorded his second victory over Marcos Baghdatis on Tuesday. The Frenchman rallied from a 2-5 opening-set deficit to take the set in 51 minutes. The Cypriot regrouped to earn a 3-0 advantage in the second, eventually leveling the match at the 89-minute mark. A controversial third set included missed line calls at 3-2, as well as the tie-break. A steadier Chardy, who struck 15 aces during the match, hit a key backhand in the breaker to seal the victory in two hours and 32 minutes.
The Frenchman will square off against 9th seed Fernando Verdasco in the next round. The Spaniard downed Eduardo Schwank in round one, 6-0, 5-7, 6-2.

World No. 24 Stanislas Wawrinka is through to the second round following his straight-set victory over wild card Frank Dancevic late Tuesday. After taking the 33-minute opening set behind two service breaks, the Swiss secured a critical break at 4-4 in the second. The 25-year-old tallied five aces and captured 88% of his first-service points.
Wawrinka is due to meet World No. 1 Rafael Nadal for a place in the round of 16.
