  • Djokovic headlines bottom half at Rogers Cup

Djokovic headlines bottom half at Rogers Cup Novak Djokovic is set to return to the ATP World Tour this week, ready to contest the Rogers Cup in Toronto, Canada. The Serb will commence the Masters 1000 event as the second seed.

World No. 2 Novak Djokovic is on tap to make his 2010 debut at the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Canada for the second week of August. The 23-year-old enters the tournament seeded second, right behind World No. 1 Rafael Nadal. Djokovic will be defending quarterfinal ranking points this week, having reached the final eight in 2009 (lost to Roddick).

The Belgrade native kicks off his fourth Rogers cup with a solid 33-10 season record. The Serb is scheduled to return to ATP World Tour competition after a run to the Wimbledon semifinal in early July. Djokovic secured a final four berth before running into an in-form Tomas Berdych. The World No. 2 has enjoyed a consistent 2010, with quarterfinal finishes in eight tournaments.

Djokovic is placed in the same quarter of the Rogers Cup draw as sixth seed Nikolay Davydenko. Fernando Verdasco, seeded ninth this week, also looms as a possible quarterfinal-round threat. Located in the same half as the World No. 2 are third seed Roger Federer, seventh seed Tomas Berdych and 12th seed Mikhail Youzhny.

Following an opening-round bye, Djokovic is slated to contend with veteran Julian Benneteau. With the departure of 13th seed Jurgen Melzer to Canadian wild card Peter Polansky, the 2007 Rogers Cup champion will avoid any seeded player until the quarterfinal.

A relatively easier draw..Should make it to semis..Davydenko(If reaches QF) should not be a bigger threat as he dont have much match practice(so as djoker)..LOL
