    Simon ousts Roddick in Washington Thirteenth seed Gilles Simon is through to the Legg Mason Tennis Classic quarterfinal after defeating three-time champion Andy Roddick Thursday night. The Frenchman came through in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.

    World No. 33 Gilles Simon recorded his first victory over World No. 9 Andy Roddick on Thursday. The Frenchman struck 7 aces and held nine of 9 service games to seal a 70-minute, 6-3, 6-3 victory in the round of 16. Simon enjoyed a solid day on serve, having captured 91% of his first-service points. Roddick struggled, unable to win more than 33% of the points on second serve.

    Simon will face David Nalbandian for a place in the semifinal. The wild card Argentine downed Marco Chiudinelli in the round of 16, 6-1, 6-0.

    (4) Marin Cilic def. (15) Mardy Fish 6-4, 4-6, 6-2

    Fourth seed Marin Cilic reached the quarterfinal following his defeat of 15th seed Mardy Fish late Thursday. The 21-year-old secured four of 8 break points en route to a 6-4, 4-6, 6-2, round of 16 win. After splitting the first two sets, Cilic took a 2-1 break edge in the decider. An insurance break came at 4-2 for the Croat, who closed the match in two hours and 16 minutes.

    Cilic is slated to battle either Janko Tipsarevic or Alejandro Falla in the quarterfinal.
